Sports Business Minute: International soccer-NFL synergy

Share

Last Sunday saw the Jacksonville Jaguars knock off the Buffalo Bills, 34-31, in London. It was the NFL's second of three games across the pond this season as part of their International Series, and the third straight year Jacksonville has played in Wembley Stadium.

It's no coincidence, either. Jaguars owner Shahid Khan is also the owner of Fulham F.C. of the Football League Championship. And as Sports Business Insider Rick Horrow shows, that synergy Khan has created between international soccer and the NFL has benefited both parties.

"(Khan) just signed a deal to extend with NFL International for the next five years and wanting to play here (in London) until 2030. What are the synergies? He's a big auto maven all over the world. He does deals here in England much of the time as well as the deal he did with Visit Florida (for Fulham F.C.), the tourism sponsorship. He did that deal in Florida, largely because of the connection between London and Jacksonville. Obviously the NFL, but Fulham as well. It's a wonderful synergy between English and European soccer and the NFL as well."
