Preps Basketball Power Rankings: No. 20 Bloom

Preps Basketball Power Rankings: No. 20 Bloom

School: Bloom

2016-17 record: 21-7, 10-0 Southland

Postseason results: Lost to Thornton in Class 4A regional finals.

Players to watch: Young talent is prevalent for the Blazing Trojans this season. Sophomore guards Keshawn Williams, Dante Maddox Jr. and Donovan Newby all have a chance to shine this season. Another sophomore, 6-foot-9 big man Martice Mitchell, is drawing strong reviews this fall.

Why they're in the power rankings: It's risky to include such a young team that is replacing all five starters but the Blazing Trojans have the kind of ceiling that few teams can match in the South Suburbs. Some of these sophomores already saw varsity minutes last season, while competing in practice every day against a veteran senior group, so they should be prepared for what's to come.

Did you know? Bloom is one of five area teams in the preseason Preps Power Rankings who will compete in the annually loaded Pontiac Holiday Tournament in late December.
