Biggest storyline: Can the Mustangs make some noise in the DVC in 2017?

Names to watch this season:  Senior OT Bryce Effner (Penn State) Senior LB Ryan Malone

Biggest holes to fill: The Mustangs will need to reload at a few key spots this summer including quarterback and on the defensive line.

EDGY's Early Take: Metea Valley will look towards it's offense and especially four returning starters on the offensive line which includes Penn State verbal commit Bryce Effner (6-foot-5, 290 pounds). Look for the Mustangs to come out and battle all comers in the DuPage Valley Conference.

Recruiting News and Notes: Quincy Patterson racking up offseason accolades

Recruiting News and Notes: Quincy Patterson racking up offseason accolades

Quincy Patterson (QB), Solorio

Solorio three-star quarterback Quincy Patterson (6-foot-3, 220 pounds) continues to draw accolades this offseason. Patterson, who took part in the Nike Football The Opening regional camp held at Halas Hall last Sunday, was named the camp's Most Valuable Player at the quarterback position. Patterson, who is already verbally committed to Virginia Tech, will also take part in the prestigious Elite 11 quarterback camp held at the Nike's headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon this summer. The camp features Nike's Top 11 junior quarterbacks from across the country.

I'Shawn Stewart (WR), Bolingbrook

Bolingbrook three-star wide receiver I'Shawn Stewart (5-foot-11, 165 pounds) is getting closer to making a college decision.

"I would like to visit where coaches are most interested in me and where I feel welcome and somewhere I will fit in," Stewart told OrangeandBlueNews.com's Beth Long. “Some places will definitely be Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin."

Stewart also said that he's, "hoping to commit sometime near the end of the month."

Bryce Effner (OT), Metea Valley

Metea Valley offensive tackle Bryce Effner (6-foot-5, 275 pounds) has continued to draw increased recruiting attention and now has scholarship offers from Big Ten schools. Effner has recently added offers from both Penn State and Minnesota.

"(Recruiting) has been pretty exciting," Effner said. "It seems like more and more coaches are interested."

Effner was hoping to have wrapped up spring college visits but that could change.

"I was going to stop making visits in April and focus on school and training," Effner said. "That's still my plan but if  things change most likely I'd go visit Iowa, Minnesota or Notre Dame."

Samson Evans (ATH), Prairie Ridge

It's looking like Prairie Ridge three-star athlete Samson Evans (6-foot-1, 190 pounds) is inching closer to making his college choice.

Evans, who plays quarterback for the Wolves and led the team to the 2016 Class 6A football state title, was asked when he could make a verbal commitment.

"It could be in late May or Early June."

Evans also has a handful of visits in mind this spring.

"I'm probably going to head up to Iowa again for a spring game and maybe Minnesota for another visit. I'm also going to the NIU spring game."
