Preps Basketball Power Rankings: No. 15 St. Rita

Share

School: St. Rita

2016-17 record: 19-11, 4-3 Catholic League South

Postseason results: Lost to Morgan Park in Class 3A sectional finals

Players to watch: Senior Jordan Matthews is a four-year varsity player and one of the best two-way guards in the city. The Mustangs also had a lot of young talent step up last season as sophomores Joel Watts and Alec Millender both showed signs of solid potential last season. And keep an eye on 6-foot-6 junior Jeremiah Oden as college coaches have praised his play this fall.

Why they're in the power rankings: St. Rita quietly put together a solid season last year despite having a young team. Now that the Mustangs are a year older, they're much more of a threat in the Catholic League this season.

Did you know? Head coach Gary DeCesare has done a great job of building St. Rita into a consistent winner but the program is still seeking its first sectional title in basketball.
