Vikings' Simpson suspended for three games

There's still a long way to go until the regular season, but it appears that the Bears roster is more focused about on-the-field matters than some of their NFC North rivals.

On Thursday, the NFL suspended Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson for the first three games of the 2012 season for a drug conviction in the fall.

2 12 pounds of marijuana was shipped to Simpson's home in September and authorities found another pound of drugs inside his house. He was sentenced to three years of probation, 200 hours of community service and 15 days in jail.

The 26-year-old Simpson signed a one-year deal with the Vikings after having a breakout season with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2011. In 16 games, he pulled in 50 catches for 725 yards and four touchdowns.

Earlier this offseason, two of the Lions top picks in the 2011 draft had run-ins with the law. Defensive tackle Nick Fairley was arrested for a DUI and running back Mikel LeShoure was arrested twice in a two-month span for marijuana possession.

The duo could still face disciplinary actions from the league.
