Lovie Smith was singling out Eric Weems for compliments on Tuesday and Weems was dropped in with the No. 1 offense for spot duty, turning in a handful of receptions.
It says that Weems is off any roster bubble as a receiver, if there was even any doubt to begin with. Weems is a certified threat as a kickoff returner but has barely moved the needle at wideout to this point in his career.
Great special-teams player, Smith said, but weve been pleased with what weve gotten from him at the receiver position also.

That further tightens the already small opening for Dane Sanzenbacher, who is a better receiver than Weems or Devin Thomas but not the special-teams equal of either, and thats an imperative for No. 5 or 6 receiver on this or any roster.
