The White Sox have acquired closer Brett Myers and cash considerations from Houston for minor leaguer pitchers Blair Walters and Matt Heidenreich and a player to be named later, the team confirmed Saturday afternoon.

In getting Myers, the Sox add a veteran pitcher who has spent 2012 serving as Houston's closer. In 35 games, Myers has 19 saves with a 3.52 ERA. The 31-year-old right started for the Astros in the last two seasons, throwing 439 23 innings with a 3.79 ERA.

Myers is owed a pro-rated portion of his 11 million salary for 2012, and has a 10 million club option for 2013 that vests if he finishes 45 games this season. So far, Myers has finished 29 games for the Astros. There's a 3 million buyout on the option that can be exercised if he doesn't reach 45 games finished.

Myers has made 93 appearances as a reliever with 40 saves and a 3.45 ERA in 94 innings out of the bullpen. Prior to joining the Astros in 2010, Myers spent the first eight years of his career with Philadelphia, where he was the Phillies' first-round draft pick in 1999.
