After an injury scare over the weekend, it sounds like Nicky Delmonico's going to be fine

Nicky Delmonico's fan club can breath easy knowing that its favorite player is going to be just fine.

Delmonico seemed to suffer the latest significant injury at White Sox camp Sunday, when he collided with Tyler Saladino in the outfield and left the Cactus League game with what the team called a "left shoulder subluxation," a partial dislocation of the shoulder joint, which sounded bad.

But an update came Monday, and Delmonico seems like he's going to be fine, with an MRI showing that nothing's wrong, according to the outfielder. Delmonico told reporters out in Arizona that he'll start hitting again Wednesday and be back in action soon.

That's a big relief for the White Sox, who have seen their prized prospects suffer one injury after another this spring. Jake Burger suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon while running to first base. Luis Robert suffered a sprained tendon in his thumb while sliding into second base. Micker Adolfo is playing through an elbow injury as he tries to avoid surgery. Eloy Jimenez just recently returned from an injury layoff. Delmonico's injury-induced departure Sunday looked to signal the first significant injury to a member of the big league squad.

But there will be no need for an emergency left fielder to start the season, it seems.

Delmonico impressed with a strong 43-game stint in the majors during the final two months of last season. He slashed .262/.373/.482 with nine homers, 25 runs scored and 23 RBIs. That performance sets up 2018 as an important year for Delmonico, as he looks to prove that he deserves to stay in the conversation when it comes to the White Sox long-term future. With so many prospects expected to be arriving at the big league level over the next couple years, Delmonico will have to show he's a long-term piece for the franchise.

By dodging serious injury, it looks like he'll have every opportunity to do that.
