White Sox bring back Miguel Gonzalez on one-year deal

The White Sox have reached a one-year deal worth $4.75 million with Miguel Gonzalez, the team announced Thursday.

Gonzalez went 8-13 with a 4.62 ERA last season with both the White Sox and Rangers. The Sox dealt Gonzalez, an impending free agent, to the Rangers on Sept. 1 for infielder Ti'Quan Forbes.

Gonzalez struggled with Texas, amassing a 6.45 ERA in five starts. Now he'll be thrown back into a White Sox rotation where he's started 45 games the past two seasons.

Gonzalez will join a starting rotation that includes Carlos Rodon (health-pending), James Shields, Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez. Carson Fulmer could round out that group, as we wrote about yesterday.

“Bringing Miggy back not only strengthens the options for our pitching staff but also returns another quality individual to our clubhouse,” GM Rick Hahn said in a press release.

Jacob May was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
