INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The NCAA has begun the second day of a hearing in the massive infractions case against the University of Miami athletics department.

The session ran 9 1/2 hours on Thursday.

Miami school officials, former coaches and lawyers met with the Committee of Infractions to defend the Hurricanes against allegations that could bring severe sanctions because of improper benefits from ex- booster Nevin Shapiro.

The focus of the session Friday morning is expected to center on football. Former assistant coaches Aubrey Hill and Clint Hurtt were among the first to arrive for the hearing at a hotel in downtown Indianapolis.

The NCAA alleges improper benefits went to 72 players, three recruits and 12 "friends and family members." Shapiro is serving a 20-year sentence for his role in a $930 million Ponzi scheme. Most of his dealings involved the football team.
