College football top 25: Aug. 31
(1) Alabama 35, Virginia Tech 10
T.J. Yeldon (4) of the Alabama Crimson Tide stiff arms Kyshoen Jarrett (34) of the Virginia Tech Hokies. Yeldon rushed for 75 yards on 17 carries, but the Tide finished with just 96 yards on the ground.
(2) Ohio State 40, Buffalo 20
The Buckeyes cruised past the Buffalo Bulls in their season opener, 40-20. Ohio State's Jordan Hall carried for 159 yards and scored two touchdowns.
(3) Oregon 66, Nicholls State 3
Oregon QB Marcus Mariota went 12-21 for 234 yards and one touchdown in the air and carried the ball five times for 113 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
(8) Clemson 38, (5) Georgia 35
Clemson QB Tajh Boyd began his quest for a Heisman Trophy by leading the Tigers to an upset over the Bulldogs from Georgia. Boyd finished the game with five touchdowns (three passing, two rushing).
(6) South Carolina 27, North Carolina 10
Jadeveon Clowney started his difficult quest for the Heisman Trophy by wreaking havoc against the North Carolina offense.
(7) Texas A&M 52, Rice 31
Despite playing just a half of football for the Aggies, Johnny Manziel went 6-8 for 94 yards and three touchdowns.
(10) Florida 24, Toledo 6
Florida RB Mack Brown went for 112 yards on 25 carries and scored two touchdowns for the Gators against Toledo.
(11) Florida State 41, Pittsburgh 13
Jameis Winston's coming out party was one for the ages. The reshirt freshman QB completing 25 of 27 passes for 356 yards and four touchdowns while adding another on the ground in a performance that left everyone but his teammates stunned.
(12) LSU 37, (20) TCU 27
Tigers RB Terrence Magee capped off LSU's first win of the season with 95 yards and two touchdowns.
(13) Oklahoma State 21, Mississippi State 3
Oklahoma State QB J.W. Walsh went 18-27 for 135 yards in the air and carried the ball 13 times for 125 yards and one touchdown.
(14) Notre Dame 28, Temple 6
Irish QB Tommy Rees threw for 346 yards and three touchdowns as the Fighting Irish begin their quest for another national title game appearance.
(15) Texas 56, New Mexico St. 7
Texas QB David Ash had a tremendous game throwing for 343 yards and four touchdowns and rushing 91 yards and one TD on the ground.
(16) Oklahoma 34, Louisiana-Monroe 0
Sooners QB Trevor Knight started his college career with a three-touchdown game through the air and 103 yards on the ground.
(17) Michigan 59, Central Michigan 9
Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner went 10-15 for 162 yards and one touchdown.
(18) Nebraska 37, Wyoming 34
Cornhuskers RB Ameer Abdullah was a big part of Nebraska's opening week victory over Wyoming. Abdullah finished with 118 yards on the ground.
Washington 38, (19) Boise State 6
Washington QB Keith Price led the Huskies to a 32-point victory over Boise State with 324 yards and two touchdowns.
(21) UCLA 58, Nevada 20
UCLA QB Brett Hundley started off his 2013 season on the right foot by throwing for 274 yards and two touchdowns.
(22) Northwestern 44, Cal 30
With a couple of clutch runs in the fourth quarter, Northwestern RB Treyvon Green helped the Wildcats defeat the Cal Bears. Green finished the game with 129 yards and two touchdowns.
(23) Wisconsin 45, Massachusetts 0
Wisconsin WR Jared Abbrederis had two catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns.
(24) USC 30, Hawaii 13
Marqise Lee opened his junior year campaign with an eight catch, 108-yard performance against Hawaii.
