TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) Arizona State reportedly has placed an assistant athletic director for recruiting on administrative leave after his arrest in a domestic-violence incident last month.

The Arizona Republic reported Thursday that Sherman Morris was charged by police in suburban Chandler with one count of aggravated assault-serious physical injury and one count of aggravated assault-strangulation on Aug. 29.

Court documents say Morris allegedly grabbed his wife from behind and lifted her off the ground while choking her at their Chandler home. Police say Morris' wife had bruises on her arm, broken teeth and a laceration that was still bleeding when officers arrived.

The documents also say Morris's adult stepson told police he saw Morris punch his wife in the face and the upper back.

ASU officials issued a release saying a "football-staff employee" was placed on administrative leave "pending the outcome of a review of the facts in the case." However, the employee wasn't identified.

The police report lists Morris' occupation as "administration" at ASU but didn't include a job title.

Morris was hired by ASU in March after six seasons at Louisiana State, where he was director of player personnel.
