- BOSTON - The Red Sox can reach the World Series with a victory over the Tigers in Game 6 of the ALCS. Max Scherzer, a 21-game winner, goes for Detroit against Boston's Clay Buchholz. Game starts 8:07 p.m.

- ST. LOUIS - At the trade deadline, the Cardinals seemed in the market for starting pitchers. But they trusted their young arms. Now St. Louis is off to the World Series for the second time in three years.

- CLEMSON, S.C. - No. 5 Florida State and No. 3 Clemson play the ACC game of the year, a matchup with national championship implications and of Heisman Trophy contender quarterbacks. Game starts 8 p.m.

- Four other key college football games: Missouri-Florida (12:21 p.m.); Texas A&M-Auburn (3:30 p.m.); UCLA-Stanford (3:30 p.m.); Southern California-Notre Dame (7:30 p.m.)

- INDIANAPOLIS - Peyton Manning's return to Indianapolis with the unbeaten Broncos is more than a showcase for him and Colts quarterback Andrew Luck. It's a barometer of how good the Colts truly are.

- TALLADEGA, Ala. - After Sunday's race at Talladega, the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship could be a whole lot clearer, or just a big ol' mess.

- FONTANA, Calif. - Scott Dixon takes a 25-point lead over Helio Castroneves into the IndyCar season finale at Auto Club Speedway. Dixon clinches the title if he finishes fifth or better. Race starts 9:10 p.m.

- LAS VEGAS - Webb Simpson takes a four-stroke lead into the third round of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. The 2012 U.S. Open champion is coming off a 63 in the second round.

- INCHEON, South Korea - Anna Nordqvist and Katherine Hull-Kirk of Australia are tied for the lead after the second round of the KEB HanaBank Championship on the LPGA Tour.

- SAO PAULO - In the latest case of soccer violence in the host country of the 2014 World Cup, a second-division match in Brazil is stopped when fans threw rocks and explosives on the field.
