TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) There were no big surprises among the 20 players cut by the Arizona Cardinals to reach the NFL's 53-man limit.
Wide receiver Brittan Golden, outside linebacker Marcus Benard and defensive tackle Isaac Sopoaga were among the players released.
The team reached an injury settlement with offensive tackle Jake Potter (shoulder) and placed cornerback Eddie Whitley on injured reserve (foot).
Golden appeared in five games with the Cardinals last season, with four receptions for 136 yards. Benard played in 12 games for Arizona last year, with 16 tackles - 11 solo - and 2 1/2 sacks.
Sopoaga, a 10-year NFL veteran who played in eight games for Philadelphia and six for New England last season, was signed 10 days ago after the Cardinals lost Darnell Dockett for the season with a knee injury. But his chance for making the roster faded when Arizona signed Tommy Kelly this week.
Former Northern Arizona running back Zach Bauman was also among the players released.
Players who barely made the roster may not stay long as the Cardinals look at those released by other teams. Several of those cut could end up on Arizona's practice squad if they clear waivers.
The Cardinals cut three running backs, three linebackers, four offensive linemen, two wide receivers, three defensive tackles, one tight end, three cornerbacks and two safeties.
Glenn Carson, an undrafted free agent outside linebacker from Penn State, made it after a strong preseason showing.
