Notre Dame: Everett Golson
Alabama: AJ McCarron
Notre Dame: You can break down Golson's statistics, but here's the most meaningful number - the sophomore is only the fourth ND QB to lead the Irish to victories in each of his first 10 starts. Golson had 346 yards against Wake Forest - and only six ND QBs have passed for more. The numbers might appear pedestrian (58.9 completion percentage, 11 TDs, five INTs), but he's very effective and a good runner, too.
Alabama: McCarron, a junior, often is described as a "game manager,'' a term that sounds like a backhanded compliment. But at a school that has produced Bart Starr, Joe Namath, Ken Stabler and Richard Todd, among others, it's McCarron who this season claimed the Alabama single-season record for TD passes (26). His knowledge, savvy and play-making ability are the ideal qualities for a Tide QB. McCarron's most impressive numbers: 24-2 as a starter with one national title (and counting?).
