As was the case in the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, Bodemeister will break inside I'll Have Another in Saturday's Preakness Stakes at Pimlico, middle jewel of the Triple Crown.
Bodemeister, who finished second in the Kentucky Derby after setting a wickedly fast pace, was installed as the 8-5 morning line favorite for the Preakness, while Derby winner I'll Have Another was made the 5-2 second choice at Wednesday's post position draw.
I'll Have Another, who was saddled with post 19 in the Kentucky Derby, will have no such hurdles to overcome breaking from post 9 in the Preakness field of 11. This is another ideal situation for the California-based colt, who can tuck in behind Bodemeister before making his run or potentially engage that rival to ensure he doesn't get away with too easy of a trip.
Teeth of the Dog, who bypassed the Kentucky Derby following a third-placed effort in the Wood Memorial, is another with some early foot. He drew post 2 in the Preakness, but is more likely to hug the rail while rating slightly off the pace.
Went the Day Well and Creative Cause, the co-third choices at 6-1, drew posts 5 and 6, respectively. Both should be able to secure favorable stalking position and will have every chance to mount challenges to the two favorites.
Daddy Nose Best, a disappointing 10th in the Kentucky Derby after receiving some support at 14-1, will break in between Bodemeister and I'll Have Another in post 8. However, the deep closer should not pose any foreseeable difficulties to the two favorites as he's expected to drop well off the pace early. He could be joined near the back by Optimizer and Cozetti, two 30-1 longshots who drew the two outsides posts of 10 and 11.
