INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) Streaming beat Taste Like Candy by 1 1/2 lengths to win the $500,000 Hollywood Starlet for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert at Betfair Hollywood Park on Saturday.
Ridden by Martin Garcia, Streaming ran 1 1/16 miles on Cushion Track in 1:44.96 and paid $23.60, $11 and $6.80 at 10-1 odds.
Taste Like Candy returned $4.60 and $3.60, while Untapable was another 1 1/4 lengths back in third and paid $4.40 to show. Rosalind, the 17-10 favorite, finished fourth.
The victory, worth $260,000, increased Streaming's career earnings to $287,000. She was supplemented to the Grade 1 race for $10,000 and another $10,000 had to be paid for her to start.
"I had her pretty fit the first time I ran her," said Baffert after his third win in the Starlet, following Excellent Meeting (1998) and Habibti (2001). "We've been really high on this filly. It was too late to get a race into her to run her in the Breeders' Cup. I wasn't sure if I was going to run in here because I didn't nominate her."
In the $151,000 Bayakoa Stakes, Broken Sword led all the way to win by 4 1/4 lengths.
Ridden by Joel Rosario, Broken Sword ran 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic surface in 1:42.99 and paid $17.80, $7.40 and $4.80 for Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who trains second-place Taste Like Candy in the Starlet.
Hollendorfer won the Bayakoa last year with Lady of Fifty and in 2010 with Washington Bridge.
Trained by Baffert, Fiftyshadesofhay returned $2.80 and $2.40 as the 11-10 favorite, while Warren's Veneda was another 5 1/2 lengths back in third and paid $3.20 to show while losing for the first time in three races on Cushion Track.
Fiftyshadesofhay broke slowly and was mired in traffic for much of the Grade 2 race.
Broken Sword has three wins in eight career starts and earnings of $156,660.
