Thiago Alves failed to make weight for his UFC 85 matchup with Matt Hughes, but the fight will go on after Hughes agreed to a catchweight.

Alves weighed in at 174 for the welterweight bout, which has a 170-pound maximum (although non-title fights get a one-pound allowance). Hughes checked in at 170 for the fight, which will be held at London's 02 Arena. Alves will likely be penalized a percentage of his purse, money that will be redirected to Hughes for accepting the fight.

In December 2006, after his KO win over Tony DeSouza, Alves tested positive for the diuretic Spirnolactone, and he later admitted he had used the drug while attempting to cut weight.

Alves was later suspended eight months and fined $5,500 by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Every other fighter made weight.
