PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) - The LPGA Championship begins Thursday at Locust Hill Country Club outside Rochester, N.Y.
The last eight major champions on the LPGA Tour have been Asian-born. American Stacy Lewis, ranked No. 2 in the world, is the last non-Asian major winner, and she's ready to break that string in a field that includes the Top 10 players in the Rolex Rankings and the Top 50 on the money list.
So, too, is 20-year-old American Jessica Korda, whose game has been solid. She has four Top 10 finishes in 10 events this season, she ranks seventh in the Solheim Cup standings, and she is tied for 11th in the race for the player of the year crown. She also boasts a birdie average of 4.31, second on tour only to Lewis.
