The World Series of Fighting 9 card featured two title fights and the WSOF debut of Yushin Okami.
The main event of WSOF 9 was a welterweight championship fight between champion Steve Carl and number one contender Rousimar Palhares. Carl won the title way back at WSOF 6 when he defeated Josh Burkman. Palhares was making his WSOF debut after being released from the UFC for holding onto the heel hook submission long after his opponent had tapped out.
It didn’t take long for Palhares to make an impact in the World Series of Fighting as he quickly caught Carl in a leg lock and applied a heel hook. Carl had no place to go and tapped out at the 1:09 mark of the first round. Watch the highlights from the fight here:
In the co-main event of the evening, Marlon Moraes and Josh Rettinghouse squared off in the inaugural title fight for the WSOF bantamweight championship. Moraes and Rettinghouse battled through 25 grueling minutes, but in the end, Moraes ended up being too much for Rettinghouse to handle and became the first ever bantamweight champion in WSOF history by unanimous decision.
