Dwight: “They flipped a switch... This is what they were talking about!"
“Absolutely a difference maker tonight.”
From Talkin’ Ball – Dwight Jaynes on Maurice Harkless’ defensive performance vs. the Jazz and setting the tone for this game.
“I don’t know where this has come from because he had the starting job to start the season, he did not play this way, did he? I don’t recall him playing this way, but HE’S GOING NOW…
His defense on Donovan Mitchell was absolutely a difference make tonight.”
“You hated guys like that, didn’t you?”
Dwight had even more to give credit to Maurice Harkless impact on the defensive end with Harkless on the prime candidate for rookie of the year, Donovon Mitchell.
“Harkless took him out of his comfort zone, he’s swiping at the ball, he’s getting up on him, he’s making him uncomfortable. You hated guys like that, didn’t you? --Guarding you like that; were up on you and in your grill all the time??”
“THIS IS WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT.”
Dwight reminds everyone that early in the season when the Blazers lost close ones, the players themselves kept telling the media that they aren’t worried and they know who they are as team.
“How many games early in the year that they lost that were close and the players after the game said, --‘we’re not worried; we know who we are; will be fine; will be okay.’ ??
--And, at a certain point, we started thinking well, you be start worrying because I don’t know if you’re going to be okay or not.
THIS IS WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT. All of sudden, they flipped a switch. It’s like- okay guys, it’s there for us, we gotta start playing and they’ve really been playing the last two games, these last two big games.”
