Ben Simmons has caught the attention of the NBA in the first seven games of his rookie season, entering Wednesday with averages of 18.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 7.7 assists while running the point.
His scorching start has also earned him high praise from oddsmakers. In Bovada's first update since the season started, Simmons is the heavy favorite to win Rookie of the Year with 1/3 odds, a shortening from last month's 3/2 odds in which he was also picked as the front-runner to win the award.
According to Bovada, Simmons' closest competition includes two of the league's other dynamic point guards, Lonzo Ball at 6/1 odds and Dennis Smith at 10/1 odds.
Joel Embiid has also been noticed by oddsmakers after averaging 20.8 points, 10 rebounds and 27 minutes per game through six contests. His odds at winning MVP have shortened from 40/1 to 20/1, tied for ninth best in the league with John Wall. Simmons' MVP odds have improved from 80/1 to 40/1, good for 15th best in the league right behind Karl-Anthony Towns. Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo is the current favorite at 7/4 odds.
