Claude Giroux Is the Lone All-Star Among the NHL's Deepest Team

Share

When the NHL All-Star ballots were released, we were annoyed that ClaudeGiroux was omitted. Between then and now, G has not only made theAll-Star game, he's the only Flyer with that distinction so far. TheFlyers' amazing depth at the forward positions were likely what led tohis snub, then ultimately the reason he was the only Flyer to be named.Five forwards have 25 points or more, and the fact that the Flyers haveseen two different goalies get 17 or more starts likely bumped both ofthose guys out. Chris Pronger, who was among the leading vote gettersfor defensemen, has been sidelined due to injury.

Still... The top team in the Eastern Conference has onlyone player currently representing it at the All-Star Game. We're gonnahave to improve our fan voting skills before next season to get a another Flyer or two named to the team.

While they may be under represented in the player department, Peter Laviolette will be one of the coaches for the game down in Raleigh.
