Eagles make 2 picks in 1st round in latest mock draft

The Eagles have pick No. 12 and a bunch of ammo. So do they make their pick at 12 and then try to get back into the first round? By Mike Mulhern

Something tells me he’ll fare a little better than the last two Jaguars quarterbacks picked in the top 10 (Blake Bortles 3rd in 2014 and Blaine Gabbert 10th in 2011).

As if there was any question if they were going quarterback before, the decision was cemented when Sam Darnold was dealt to the Panthers.

3/32

There’s still a lot of uncertainty as to who the 49ers moved heaven and earth to trade up for. The consensus seems to be Mac Jones from Alabama, but I just don’t buy it. This feels like the Chiefs situation in 2018: Trade up for Patrick Mahomes, let him sit behind a veteran (Alex Smith, or in this case, Jimmy Garoppolo), then hand the reins to the youngster in a year.

4/32

This pick seems destined to be a quarterback, but which team makes the pick remains to be seen. Fields had long been considered the second-best QB in the class but ends up as the fourth one selected.

5/32

Joe Burrow gets his wish and gets reunited with his National Championship teammate in Chase. They hooked up 84 times for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns in the 2019 season.

6/32

Miami went offensive tackle in the first round last year, but prospects like Sewell don’t come around often. They still get a high-impact player at a premium position despite all their wheeling and dealing.

7/32

The Lions lost both Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones this offseason, leaving them with a huge void at receiver. The Heisman trophy winner fills it immediately.

8/32

We’ll find out rather quickly if Sam Darnold is a bust or was just the product of a bad situation with the Jets. He’ll have Joe Brady calling plays plus Pitts, Christian McCaffrey, D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson surrounding him.

9/32

You can’t compete in a division with Patrick Mahomes when Drew Lock is under center. Even though he’s no longer the sole decision maker in Denver, Jones feels like an Elway quarterback pick if there ever was one.

10/32

The Dallas defense was putrid last season, forcing a coordinator change from Mike Nolan to Dan Quinn. Surtain gives him a sure thing in the secondary.

11/32

The Giants added Golladay to bolster the receiving corps. Now they go up front to protect Daniel Jones. Slater sat out the 2020 season but was a force in 2019.

12/32

In my first mock draft I predicted the Eagles would trade down from 6 to 12 to net a 2022 first round pick (thanks for reading, Howie). I had them taking Waddle in that scenario and if the board fell this way, it’d be a toss-up between Waddle and Jaycee Horn. I’ll take the receiver now, but I’m betting the Eagles aren’t done in the first round (see below).

13/32

It certainly appears the Chargers have something special in Justin Herbert, so keeping him upright becomes crucial.

14/32

The Vikings need production on the defensive side of the ball, period. Mike Zimmer’s once-elite group has been pulled apart by free agency. Paye gives them a building block moving forward.

15/32

Bill Belichick needs players on both sides of the ball. After the Pats splurged in free agency to improve the offense, they use their first rounder on a do-it-all playmaker on the other side of the ball.

16/32

One of the draft’s fastest risers, Horn impressed at his pro day. Couple that with on-field production against SEC competition and Horn is going to hear his name called early in Round 1.

17/32

Rousseau really only had one season at the collegiate level, but he was dominant, registering 15.5 sacks for the ‘Canes in 2019. He’ll bolster a defense in desperate need of a pass rush.

18/32

They go offensive line early then back it up with a playmaker on the outside here. In a receiver-rich draft, I think this would be a smart play for the ‘Fins.

19/32

Washington built up their defense by drafting studs up front and now attempt to do the same on offense. They finally find a suitable replacement for Trent Williams.

20/32

I expect the Bears to be busy trying to move up in the first round to find a quarterback, but failing that, they get the best available playmaker for Andy Dalton. At one point, Bateman was considered the cream of this year’s receiver crop, and he still winds up going top-20.

21/32

The struggles of the offensive line certainly played a part in Carson Wentz’s downfall in Philly. The Colts know keeping him clean will be crucial to their success.

22/32

Jim Schwartz re-joined the Titans as a senior assistant to new defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, presumably to help rejuvenate a dormant pass rush. Phillips will give Schwartz an elite edge rushing prospect to mold.

23/32

He endeared himself to the city of Philadelphia by proclaiming “you’ve got to have some fierceness to you to survive in Philly.” Unfortunately for the Birds he’ll take that attitude up north a bit to the Jets.

24/32

A plug-and-play replacement for the recently retired Maurkice Pouncey. The Steelers got ten years of All-Pro play out of Pouncey in the middle of the offensive line. It feels like Dickerson will give them a decade more.

25/32

Projected trade: Eagles receive No. 25, Jaguars receive: No 37, No. 84, No. 150

The Eagles use the 3rd rounder they received in the Carson Wentz trade (plus their 5th rounder) to move back into the first round. Howie Roseman has 11 picks at his disposal and will surely be making moves left and right. Jacksonville, in full rebuild mode, opts to collect more picks for Urban Meyer. Farley was considered by many to be the top corner in this year’s class before a back injury sidelined him during the pre-draft process. He also opted out of the 2020 season, so there are questions abound, causing his fall here to the mid-20s. This might feel a little like Sidney Jones 2.0 for Eagles fans, but surgery to clean up a back issue is a little different than blowing an Achilles (coincidentally, Jones is now on the Jags). Meanwhile, the Eagles come away with top-end talents in Waddle and Farley with their first two picks, plus they net an additional first rounder in the trade down with the Dolphins. That’d be a huge haul.

26/32

Barmore seems like the guy we’re going to look back on and wonder why he wasn’t picked higher. The Philly native was the Defensive MVP of the National Championship game, capping off his only season as a starter for the Tide. If he gets to play on the same defensive line as Myles Garrett, watch out.

27/32

After losing Matthew Judon in free agency, the Ravens tab Ojulari as their next pass rush specialist. He’s only 20 years old and oozes potential.

28/32

One of my favorite prospects in the draft, Moore gives off some Steve Smith vibes. Sean Payton should be salivating at the thought of putting him on the field with Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas.

29/32

Another premium draft pick not spent on a receiver for Aaron Rodgers. However, the biggest reason the Packers fell short in the NFC title game (aside from kicking a field goal on 4th down while trailing by 8) was the play of cornerback Kevin King. Even with King re-signed, Newsome gives them someone to trust opposite shutdown corner Jaire Alexander.

30/32

Buffalo is a running game away from becoming an unstoppable force on offense. Harris is a special talent who amassed 50 touchdowns (FIFTY!!!) over the last two seasons in Tuscaloosa. He’s certainly worth a late first rounder.

31/32

The Chiefs cut both Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz this offseason, leaving major questions about who will protect Patrick Mahomes. Andy Reid would be hard-pressed to pass on a tackle in this spot, especially one with Mayfield’s pedigree.

32/32

Selecting for the Bucs is like trying to come up with a gift for the person who has everything. They return all 22 starters from their Super Bowl team, though they could use some help at corner. Samuel’s father won two titles playing alongside Tom Brady in New England. He played 11 Hall of Fame-caliber seasons overall, before retiring in 2013. It’s so insane to think about Brady playing with both father and son that it just has to happen.
