Inside Miles Sanders' Super Bowl thoughts during his wild 2019 TD catch

The 2019 Eagles regular season was up-and-down, but one obvious highlight was Carson Wentz's insane touchdown pass to Miles Sanders in Week 15, a bullet of a pass to the back of the end zone, through multiple defenders.

Eagles fans - and football fans everywhere - watched that pass on a loop in the days after it went down, finding alternate angles to fully grasp its greatness.

On Wednesday, Sanders broke down what exactly was going through his mind as the play unfolded with NFL Network's Kay Adams - including a specific Super Bowl play he was reminded of as the ball was coming towards him:

Here's what Sanders was thinking:

SANDERS: You wanna know what play I had in my head? The Santonio Holmes Super Bowl catch.

ADAMS: Wait, in that moment you had that in your head?

SANDERS: In that moment, I'm like, 'Oh yeah, I'm in the corner. Throw that - I told him to throw it up, but he throws it so hard, it goes low. I just took a knee and just caught it.

In case you need to jog your memory, here's the Holmes play from that Steelers-Cardinals Super Bowl, a game which nearly featured the Eagles instead of Arizona:

I can kind of see what Sanders means. Wentz looking off defenders like Roethlisberger; Sanders pinned against the back and side boundary lines like Holmes; the similar improbabilty of getting passes past multiple defenders: It's all there.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson called the throw, at the time, one of the most impressive throws he's seen in his entire NFL career, and gave Sanders some serious kudos for his end of the play:

I mean, it was just an impressive throw. Impressive, probably more so the catch, obviously, where Miles was. There were, I believe three Redskins and an Eagle all lined up in a straight line, basically, between Carson and Miles.

It was, truly, an insane play. Not exactly the same stakes as Holmes' catch - but maybe one day.
