Flyers Trade for D-Man Nicklas Grossman

Trade season has officially begun in Philadelphia, with a new face on its way.

The Flyers announced a deal with the Dallas Stars that brings defenseman Nicklas Grossman to Philly in exchange for a 2012 2nd rounder and a 2013 3rd. Grossman is 27 years old and has five assists and 26 penalty minutes in 52 games with the Stars, averaging about 19 minutes on the ice every night. He's a big boy, standing at 6'3 and weighing 227 lbs.

He's a stay at home defender who can hit, and he won't be confused as a replacement for Chris Pronger. More likely just an upgrade from the lower pairing talent they'd been using to date.

Grossman is in his fifth NHL season and the final year of a contract carrying a cap hit of $1.625mil, per CapGeek.
