LEWISBURG, Pa. — Nana Foulland scored a career-high 30 points and Bucknell defeated La Salle 88-81 on Friday night.
Foulland was 12-of-15 shooting with Stephen Brown adding 21 points and Zach Thomas 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Bison (6-7). The senior trio came into the game averaging over a combined 50 points per game and finished this night with 67. The Bison shot 55 percent, which helped them counter 17 turnovers, and ran their home winning streak to 14, currently the ninth-longest nationally.
The Explorers (6-7) were led by a career-tying 29 points from Pookie Powell and a career-high 24 from Isiah Deas. La Salle was without leading scorer B.J. Johnson, out with ankle injury, and Miles Brookins, who was ill.
Bucknell led 41-34 at halftime and was up by 17 with 8:45 left in the game. La Salle got within nine, 82-73, with 1:54 to go but the Bison made 6 of 8 free throws from there to maintain a cushion.
RICHMOND, Va. — Nick Sherod and Jacob Gilyard connected on consecutive 3-pointers as Richmond broke away from a tied game in the last 1:11 to defeat La Salle 82-74 Saturday, pushing its win streak to three games.
La Salle (8-12, 2-5 Atlantic 10) forged a 74-74 tie on a Tony Washington layup, but on the other end of the floor Sherrod nailed an open 3 from in front of the Richmond bench for the lead. The Spiders' Grant Golden blocked La Salle's Pookie Powell on the other end.
After La Salle turned over the inbounds pass, Gilyard dribbled down the clock, created space with a crossover move and drained a dagger of a 3-pointer for a six-point lead with 26 seconds left.
Sherod and Golden each scored 18 points for Richmond (6-13, 4-3). Golden added eight rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. Khwan Fore added 14 points for the Spiders, who made 30 of 60 shots with 17 assists.
B.J. Johnson led the Explorers with 27 points in his second game back after missing five with an ankle injury. Isiah Deas added 18 and Powell 15.
Isaiah Deas scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and grabbed eight rebounds and Tony Washington had 11 of his 14 points in the second half to help La Salle hold on for a 75-67 win over Fordham on Wednesday night.
Washington was 6-of-7 shooting and also had eight boards. Saul Phiri scored 13 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds and Pookie Powell finished with 12 points and six assists for La Salle (8-11, 2-4 Atlantic 10). The Explorers snapped a four-game skid overall and won its third straight in the series.
Will Tavares scored 12 points in a 16-1 run that pulled Fordham (6-12, 1-5 Atlantic 10) within five points after he made back-to-back layups with nearly eight minutes to play. La Salle went more than four minutes without a field goal until Powell hit a 3 and B.J. Johnson's dunk pushed the lead to 68-57 with five minutes left. The Rams trailed by at least eight points the rest of the way.
Tavares scored 18 points to lead Fordham. Prokop Slanina added 12 with a career-best five steals and Joseph Chartouny had 11 points and a season-high nine assists.
Deas hit a 3 to cap a 19-3 run that gave La Salle a 36-22 lead late in the first half and Phiri's tip-in putback gave the Explorers a 21-point lead with 15 minutes to go.
