One Pane to the Top Right

Many of us were fighting a sports hang over after the Phillies dropped their second at home to the Rockies yesterday, leaving no room for error as they had to Colorado, so a West Coast game start the Flyers season seemed tough to stay up for. But Danny Briere & Co. made it a little easier, getting out to an early 2-0 lead, letting it get interesting, and then winning on Briere's second goal as a Flyer.

Briere started the scoring 3 minutes into the game with a gritty goal, jabbing away at a puck in the Flames' crease until it leaked through. Mike Knuble, who assisted on Briere's first goal, also scored the second goal of the period. Former Flyer Daymond Langkow (who scored 33 goals last season) put in two in a row for the Flames, both on the power play, and the game was tied late in the 3rd period. But Briere stepped up again, after Simon Gagne stole the puck in an ugly Flames' transition and advanced it to his wide open center. Briere used the Sega Hockey move, coming in from the right circle, causing goalie Miikka Kiprusoff to bite in, and then going top shelf right.

Helluva way to shake out the rust, get that first win, and forget about last season.
