Sixers officially sign forward Alex Poythress

The injury-riddled Sixers have a little bit of help on the way.

The Sixers announced Sunday morning they have officially signed 6-foot-7 forward Alex Poythress, formerly of Kentucky and the Ft. Wayne Mad Ants, the Indiana Pacers' affiliate in the NBA Development League.

The news was of Poythress' signing was first reported Saturday morning by the Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski and confirmed by CSNPhilly.com Sixers Insider Jessica Camerato.

The NBA awarded the Sixers a roster hardship exception in order to sign Poythress.

In 46 games this season with Ft. Wayne, the 23-year-old averaged 18.5 points and 7.1 rebounds.

Poythress played four years at Kentucky and took part in the Sixers' pre-draft workouts last summer. Poythress went undrafted before playing summer league ball with the Orlando Magic and then heading to Ft. Wayne.

With Poythress in the fold, the Sixers' roster now stands at 16 players.
