10 players for Eagles to watch during Senior Bowl week

MOBILE, Ala. — This week the NFL world will yet again converge in Alabama to watch the nation’s top seniors, one of the first big steps on the way to the draft.

Last year, this week served as the first real chance for the Eagles’ coaching staff and Howie Roseman to get a look at Carson Wentz, who ended up being their pick at No. 2. When the Eagles were in Mobile last year, they were still sitting at pick No. 13. They’re not in a much different situation this year; they’ll have either pick No. 14 or 15.

We're expecting to hear from Roseman and personnel head Joe Douglas on Wednesday. They'll have a lot to watch this week.

Some big names have opted to skip this year’s Senior Bowl: QB Deshaun Watson, WR Dede Westbrook, WR Corey Davis, DL Jonathan Allen and LB Reuben Foster.

Even with those guys bowing out from the game, there are still plenty of prospects to keep an eye on. This list of 10 goes pretty heavy on two positions of great need: receiver and corner.

Cooper Kupp, WR, Eastern Washington
Originally, Westbrook accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl, but then he decided to back out. That's good news for Kupp because it means he might be the best at his position this week in Mobile. Kupp (6-1, 215) missed time early in the season with a shoulder injury, but still caught 117 passes for 1,700 yards and 17 touchdowns.

He was the FCS offensive player of the year and could be a second-round pick or higher. The Eagles showed last year by drafting Wentz that they won't hold FCS competition against a guy.

Zay Jones, WR, East Carolina
Jones (6-1, 197) is the NCAA single-season and career receptions leader. He caught 158 passes in 2016 and 399 in his career. He also led the country in receiving yards in 2016 with 1,746. The production is certainly there.

Taywan Taylor, WR, Western Kentucky
Taylor (6-0, 195) is a super shifty player. Another small-school kid with great production. In his last two years in college, he caught 184 passes for 3,197 yards and 34 touchdowns, while averaging over 17 yards per reception.

Corey Clement, RB, Wisconsin
Clement (5-10, 227) had a great career at Wisconsin after coming out of Glassboro, N.J. He'll probably end up being a mid-round guy but is a decent prospect. Clement rushed for 1,304 yards on 292 carries as a senior.

Jamaal Williams, RB, BYU
Williams has flown under the radar, which is impressive, given his big frame (6-1, 220). He has good acceleration for a big back, and as you'd imagine, is tough to bring down. He rushed 234 times for 1,375 yards and 12 touchdowns in his senior year.

Dion Dawkins, OL, Temple
Dawkins (6-4, 320) is one of two Temple kids going to the Senior Bowl, along with ILB Haason Reddick. It's interesting that the Senior Bowl lists Dawkins as a guard because he has played tackle and is considered to be a top-10 tackle in the draft. He even has a chance to rise into a first-round pick.

Haason Reddick, Edge, Temple
We half put these Temple kids on the list because they're from Temple. But make no mistake about it: They can play. In the airport to Mobile, a talent evaluator said these two Temple kids are better prospects than the three who were in Mobile last year. Reddick (6-1, 230) can play.

Tre'Davious White, CB, LSU
White (6-0, 197) is just the latest LSU defensive back ready to make the jump to the NFL. The Eagles already have a couple on their roster in Jalen Mills and Ron Brooks. Pro Football Focus loved White, naming him the top CB in college football in 2016.

Cameron Sutton, CB, Tennessee
Sutton (5-11, 186) is another possible high-round corner. Just a really solid career for the Vols as a four-year starter. He missed part of his senior season with an ankle injury but was able to return for the end of the season. He had seven career picks and 30 passes defended.

Jourdan Lewis, CB, Michigan
Maybe Lewis (5-10, 186) is a cut below the others, but maybe he isn't. He missed time early in the season but recovered to have another nice year. Might be there in the second round, too.
