It's not quite the big free agent splash fans are waiting for, but the Eagles are bringing back an important piece to their special teams units.

Veteran linebacker and special teams ace Najee Goode, who was set to become a free agent on Thursday, is coming back to the Eagles on a one-year deal. The deal can be worth up to slightly over $1 million, according to a league source.

ESPN's Dan Graziano first reported the signing.

Goode, 27, has been with the Eagles since 2013 and has played in 45 games since then. In 2016, he appeared in all 16 games. Goode played just two defensive snaps all season, but 292 special teams snaps (66 percent). Only Chris Maragos and Bryan Braman played more special teams snaps.

Before the 2016 season, the Eagles originally cut Goode (6-0, 244) but brought him back on the roster just before the season opener. He then went on to play in every game.

Free agency is will begin at 4 p.m. on Thursday. Before signing Goode, the Eagles had $6,251,224 in available cap space.
