Eagles Injury Update: Pederson ‘evaluating' LG battle, options at safety

The Eagles are evaluating. They're evaluating everything.

In fact, head coach Doug Pederson said the word "evaluating" or "evaluate" five times during his nine and a half minute press conference Friday morning, likely an attempt to not tip his hand to the Giants.

First off, he's evaluating who will play at left guard. Despite Chance Warmack seemingly getting more run with the first team in practice, and despite a couple of players earlier in the week indicating a change had already been made, Pederson still claimed he hasn't yet decided who will start at left guard Sunday.

"I have not made a change yet," he said.

So is Isaac Seumalo still the starting left guard?

"As of right now, we're still evaluating," Pederson said.

Pederson claimed the team is getting both Seumalo and Warmack ready to play Sunday.

Pederson said Rodney McLeod, Corey Graham and Jaylen Watkins would miss practice but at the start of Friday's session, McLeod was on the field. At the very least, McLeod will be a limited participant, which will give him a better shot to play Sunday. Graham and Watkins missed practice all week.

Pederson agreed that 99 percent of the time players who missed all three days of practice are not able to play in the game that week.

"Yeah, that's an accurate statement," Pederson said. "But it doesn't have to apply in every situation. Every case is different based on player and scheme."

Without those three Friday, the Eagles are down to three safeties: starter Malcolm Jenkins, special teamer Chris Maragos and newcomer Trae Elston. They have corners who can move back to safety and linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill has the ability to play at safety too.

Not a shocker, but Pederson didn't seem too keen on discussing the possible options the team has at safety after the injuries.

"Just look at the roster, see who we got," he said. "There's Maragos, we signed Trae. If those two guys, who else you going to ... I'll go back there and play if I have to."

Defensive tackle Destiny Vaeao (wrist) and cornerback Ronald Darby (ankle) will be listed as out for the game.
