On Sunday afternoon, Jon Dorenbos tied Harold Carmichael’s franchise record by playing in his 162nd consecutive game in an Eagles uniform.

On Sunday evening, Dorenbos underwent wrist surgery that will end his streak.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said Monday that Dorenbos, the Eagles’ popular Pro Bowl long snapper, is out for the rest of the year after breaking his wrist during the Eagles’ loss to the Redskins on Sunday.

“He's one of the leaders of the team, so he's definitely going to be missed,” Pederson said.

Dorenbos, a Pro Bowl pick after the 2009 and 2014 seasons, got hurt early in the third quarter after snapping on a Donnie Jones punt.

There was no flag on the play but Pederson said Monday there should have been.

“It looked on film like it was illegal,” he said. “He kind of got him right in the shoulder, helmet (area), yeah.”

Pederson said Dorenbos will be placed on season-ending injured reserve and the team will bring in a number of free-agent long snappers for tryouts Monday and Tuesday.

Among them will be West Virginia graduate John DePalma, who joined the team as a rookie free agent on May 5 and was released on Aug. 28 after spending training camp with the Eagles.

Dorenbos, signed by the Eagles in the middle of the 2006 season, got hurt while playing in his 162nd consecutive game in an Eagles uniform. Carmichael, one of the greatest wide receivers in franchise history, played in 162 consecutive games from 1972 through 1983.

Dorenbos is one of 12 NFL players to play in all 157 games since opening day 2007. Among the others are Jones, who has played in 187 consecutive games, the fourth-longest current streak in the NFL. But only the last 61 have come in an Eagles uniform.

Dorenbos is also a successful magician and was a finalist on this year’s America’s Got Talent NBC TV series.

Dorenbos has long snapped in every Eagles game since Nov. 26, 2006, when Mike Bartrum suffered a neck injury.

Bartrum had been the long snapper for 107 consecutive games going back to the 2000 opener.

It's been 17 years since someone other than Bartrum or Dorenbos long snapped for the Eagles in a regular-season game. The last one before that notable duo was David Diaz-Infante in 1999.

Of the current roster, only Brent Celek and Dorenbos have played in a postseason win in an Eagles uniform.

Dorenbos has been with the Eagles so long he was teammates with Jeff Garcia, Brian Dawkins and Jeremiah Trotter.
