FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets rookie safety Jamal Adams says during a forum with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and season-ticket holders that if he had his choice, the football field is "the perfect place to die."
Fans were able to ask questions Monday during the session, which also included Jets running back Matt Forte. One brought up player health and safety, coming off the largest update on chronic traumatic encephalopathy so far. Boston University and VA researchers reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association last week that they found signs of the disease in nearly 90 percent of the 200 brains examined, including 110 of 111 from NFL players.
Adams, the Jets' first-round pick from LSU, says he understands the focus on safety, but would "be at peace" if he died on the field over anywhere else because of the sacrifice he and other players make to play the game.
Many of the approximately 150 fans in attendance applauded Adams' comments (see full story).
Jaguars: LT Albert retires after never playing for team
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Jaguars left tackle Branden Albert has abruptly retired.
The two-time Pro Bowl selection was acquired in a trade with the Miami Dolphins in March. He called it quits at age 32 Monday after three days of training camp and nine NFL seasons. He had been competing for a starting role with rookie Cam Robinson, a second-round draft pick who now gets the job by default.
Albert skipped most of the team's offseason program because he wanted a new contract. He was scheduled to make $8.8 million in 2017.

He says in a statement it's been "truly a blessing" to play in the NFL. He plans to return to Miami to run his businesses.
Albert was drafted by Kansas City out of Virginia in 2008 and was a Pro Bowler in 2013 and 2015 (see full story).
Dolphins: Ajayi evaluated for possible concussion
DAVIE, Fla. -- Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase says running back Jay Ajayi is being evaluated for a possible concussion.
Ajayi was hurt during Monday's training camp practice. He walked off the field accompanied by trainers.
Ajayi had a breakout year for the Dolphins last season when he ran for 1,272 yards and had consecutive 200-yard games (see full story).
Lions: Becton signs, Milligan removed from PUP list
ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions have signed tackle Nick Becton and put tackle Tony Hills on the reserve/retired list.
The team announced the moves Monday. Detroit also removed safety Rolan Milligan from the active/physically unable to perform list.
Becton appeared in five games for the Chicago Bears during the 2015 season, and he also played in one game for the San Diego Chargers two years earlier. He entered the NFL in 2013 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Virginia Tech.
