Report: Eagles won't see Tony Romo in season finale vs. Cowboys

It looks like the Eagles won't get one more shot to face Tony Romo.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wants to continue to get rookie quarterback Dak Prescott more experience and avoid an injury to the veteran backup. That means Romo will stay on the bench on Sunday, according to ESPN

"We don't feel like that any game we'd get for him that him stepping out there running a few plays or series would be worth the risk," Jones said about not playing Romo against the Lions on Monday night.

At 13-2, and with the top seed in the NFC already locked up, the Cowboys won't have much to play for on New Year's Day in Philadelphia. The Eagles will attempt to win their seventh game of the season.

Romo, 36, has not played this season after suffering a back fracture during the preseason. In his absence, Prescott has taken over and led the Cowboys to great success. According to ESPN, the Cowboys could also have third-stringer Mark Sanchez active for Sunday. Jones wants the rookie fourth-rounder, Prescott, to gain as much experience as possible.

"Look at what Dak Prescott learned tonight and what's now in his computer that wasn't there before tonight in terms of working with Dez (Bryant), in terms of executing the offense," Jones said, via ESPN. "With him being a rookie, we really need all these reps he can get, including any reps we get this week and next week, because we want him to be as educated and as well-prepared and have as much experience as he can when we get in the playoffs."

Prescott said he wants to play on Sunday, and head coach Jason Garrett declined to talk about his plans for playing his starters.

In the Cowboys' overtime win against the Eagles on Oct. 30, Prescott completed 19 of 39 passing attempts for 287 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also had 38 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
