During the week leading up to the Giants game, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said Ryan Mathews was "still the guy."
It certainly didn't look like it in Sunday's 28-23 loss at MetLife Stadium.
While Mathews got just eight snaps (11 percent), Darren Sproles led the way for Eagles running backs with 60 snaps (80 percent). After the Dallas game, Pederson tried to say Sproles got 63 snaps because he was hot. Now, it seems like he's the No. 1.
Sproles had a pretty good day running the ball. He had 13 carries for 57 yards. Wendell Smallwood had two carries for 25 yards in four plays. Mathews had five carries for 15 yards. And Kenjon Barner had one carry for three yards on three snaps.
Nelson Agholor again led Eagles receivers with 69 snaps (92 percent) against the Giants. He had four catches for 41 yards to show for it and nearly fumbled away the ball in a crucial moment; he did make a nice catch down the stretch too.
Dorial Green-Beckham got 59 snaps (65) percent and finished the game with a goose egg. Zero catches on five targets.
If you want a bright spot from the receivers, Bryce Treggs played the first 15 snaps of his career and made an impact with a 58-yard catch. He finished with two catches for 69 yards and gave the Eagles a new element to their pass game.
NFL
Rookie Isaac Seumalo also got the first snap of his NFL career. It came as a fullback on a failed fourth down attempt.
On defense, Malcolm Jenkins, Rodney McLeod, Nigel Bradham and Jordan Hicks played all 64 snaps. Jenkins has played every defensive snap this season, minus that silly fake punt from the Browns.
Because the Giants almost always have three receivers on the field, the Eagles were in nickel for nearly all of Sunday's game. That meant just three snaps for Mychal Kendricks, who just plays in the base package. He likely knew his workload would be limited heading into the game.
Jaylen Watkins played 95 percent of the snaps because in this game, Jenkins played in the slot and Watkins took over at safety. Against the Cowboys, Jalen Mills played in the slot for a lot of the game.
Mills (36) and Leodis McKelvin (38) played nearly identical snaps in the cornerback rotation.
