The Flyers on Sunday activated left winger Matt Read off injured reserve, and returned forward Taylor Leier back to the Phantoms, according to general manager Ron Hextall.
Read has been out of action since Dec. 4, when he suffered an oblique injury in Nashville after a Filip Forsberg body check. He should be available for tonight's game in Anaheim.
In 27 games this season, Read has six goals and four assists, but five of those six goals came in the Flyers' first five games.
Though the goals slowed down, Read's play remained elevated from the last two seasons. His struggles last season have been noted, and this season he has been a different player.
“You know what, Reader came in early before camp, he's absolutely worked his tail off,” Hextall said in October. “He understood that he hadn't been as good a player as he should have been last year. He understood it, he took it upon himself, put in a great summer, came in early, got himself in great shape, and he's a hungry hockey player right now and he's been back to where he was.”
Read could draw back into the lineup tonight against the Ducks, but who comes out of the lineup remains a question. Travis Konecny was a healthy scratch Friday in San Jose, but is expected to come back in tonight. If Read comes back in, that would mean another forward would be a healthy scratch.
Leier flashed signs of being a capable NHL player, picking up a goal and an assist in 10 games. He even spent some time on the Flyers' top line, too. He'll return to the Phantoms, where he has six goals and 20 points in 22 games.
