Flyers Fan Q&A: Which ex-Flyer is missed most?

In this edition of the Q&A, I answer a question about former Flyers who have found a great deal of success with other teams.

Q: You can have 1 guy back: Carter Richards Seidenberg Sharp JVR Bobrovsky?

A: Considering the way these playoffs have gone for the L.A. Kings, it’s got to be Jeff Carter.

I know, I know. Bear with me a second.

Carter has been absolutely clutch for the Kings through the postseason, netting 10 goals and tallying 14 assists in 24 games. He has more power-play goals (four) than any other player active in the playoffs, and is second in points. The guy, simply put, has made his presence felt. He's been a difference-maker.

But beyond just this playoff run, Carter has matured past the player he was while with the Flyers. I get the impression he’s remembered here largely for partying down the shore and missing an open-net shot in Game 6 against the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010’s Stanley Cup Final. These days, he’s a key piece of what looks to be yet another Cup-winning Kings team.

My sole hesitation here is that Carter has found much of his success playing center -- and we all know the Flyers are overstocked down the middle. Carter can, and has, played right wing, as well, though. And the Flyers have been in need of a scoring winger for a few seasons now. Carter, in theory, could have been that guy. He's still just 29 years old, which means he's got some solid playing years left.

For what it's worth, my second choice on the list would have been Patrick Sharp. I even considered choosing him at first, considering he's a natural wing and that's really what the Flyers need, but it's impossible to overlook Carter's recent success.

What do you guys think?
