Flyers recall D Brandon Manning from Phantoms

The Flyers on Thursday night were forced to recall defenseman Brandon Manning from the Phantoms to replace the injured Andrew MacDonald.

MacDonald fractured his right hand in the third period of the Flyers' 4-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday.

Both MacDonald and forward Wayne Simmonds will miss the remaining seven games of the season. Simmonds fractured his left leg against Chicago (see story).

Manning's recall was necessary because Luke Schenn has a lower-body injury that may be related to a more significant groin or abdominal issue.

The 24-year-old Manning was previously called upon to fill in for injuries. He's played four games with the Flyers this season, with one assist, a plus-1 and two penalty minutes.

In 58 games with Lehigh Valley, Manning has 11 goals and 32 assists with a minus-11 rating. His PIMs are down from 231 last season to 150 this year.

Since the Flyers didn't bring up any forwards, Vinny Lecavalier will re-enter the lineup Saturday afternoon against the San Jose Sharks.

Lecavalier has been a healthy scratch for the last three games.
