Being the top goal scorer on your AHL club and second in the league overall is one way to get a new contract.

That's what happened to Phantoms left wing Greg Carey on Wednesday, as the club signed him to a contract extension.

The 26-year-old Carey is in his fourth professional season. Through 57 games with the Flyers' American Hockey League affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, he has 26 goals and 17 assists for 43 points.

The 26 goals lead the Phantoms and rank him second overall in the AHL, while his 43 points rank fourth on the Phantoms in scoring. Carey is also the AHL power play leader with 17 goals.

His current numbers already match his career highs in goals, assists and points, set last season at Springfield.
