BOX SCORE

If you closed your eyes and thought back to last Saturday’s game at the Wells Fargo Center, you would swear you were watching the same game.

Big, heavy team from the West Coast being outshot and outplayed by the Flyers in a scoreless affair right into the third period.

Except this wasn’t the Los Angeles Kings, it was the San Jose Sharks.

Wayne Simmonds' steal led to his own game-winning goal, as the Flyers secured a 2-1 overtime victory over San Jose on Saturday in another matinee performance.

Ivan Provorov’s goal at 6:22 of the third period broke the scoreless tie before Patrick Marleau tied it up with a power-play goal three minutes later.

Thus, the Flyers ended their five-game homestand 2-2-1.

Michal Neuvirth started four games on this homestand.

Uh-oh stat
San Jose lost, 6-3, to the Bruins on Thursday. When losing by three goals or more, the Sharks were 6-0 in the next game.

Overturned
The Sharks had a power-play goal overturned via a challenge from Dave Hakstol in the opening period for goalie interference on Neuvirth.

Shots
The Flyers outshot the Sharks, 14-4, in a scoreless first period. Through two scoreless periods, Claude Giroux, Jakub Voracek and Shayne Gostisbehere had 10 of the Flyers' 20 shots.

Notable goals
Provorov’s goal was the Flyers' first 5-on-5 goal in 145:25.

Goalie report
Neuvirth didn’t get a lot a work but finished with 23 saves. San Jose backup Aaron Dell shut the Flyers out earlier this season and made it tough on them. Before Provorov’s goal, he had six complete shutout periods on them.

Power play
The Flyers didn’t look very good on their first two power plays. They had three shots on their third one. The Flyers were 0 for 3.

Penalty kill
Good work by the PK units. Interesting that the Sharks refused to take the one-timers available to them, which suggests they didn’t have net presence. The Sharks were 1 for 3.

Fights
Radko Gudas and Michael Haley wanted to fight in the first period but the officials would not allow it.

Scratches
Defensemen Michael Del Zotto (leg/bone bruise) and Nick Schultz (healthy); forward Roman Lyubimov (healthy).

Up next
The Flyers are off Sunday and don’t play again until Wednesday night in Calgary. They will practice Monday at Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, New Jersey, at 10:30 a.m.
