1 expert believes Phillies had best Day 2 draft class

The Phillies' haul Friday on Day 2 of the MLB draft was quite impressive, according to one draft expert. MLB.com's Jim Callis went as far as to say the Phillies had the best Day 2 draft picks of any team in the league.

They started off the day by taking SS/3B Cole Stobbe, a high schooler from Nebraska, who Callis compared to Rockies shortstop Trevor Story. He called Stobbe the "best signable position player available" at the top of Round 3.

Callis also liked the pair of left-handed pitchers the Phillies took: JoJo Romero (fourth round) and Cole Irvin (fifth round). And the Phillies apparently got some value with their sixth-round pick, David Martinelli, a centerfielder from Dallas Baptist projected by some to go in the third round.

The Phillies will have a chance to continue that momentum Saturday on Day 3 of the MLB draft, which covers Rounds 11 through 40 (see draft tracker).
