Brock Stassi and Daniel Nava have earned the Phillies' final two bench spots.

Second baseman Jesmuel Valentin has been optioned to Triple-A, where he will play every day.

Stassi, a 27-year-old, left-handed hitting first baseman who can play some left field and right field, has hit .339 this spring with a team-leading six home runs and 17 RBIs. He was the Phillies' 33rd-round draft pick in 2011 and has never played in the majors.

Nava, the switch-hitting former Red Sox outfielder/first baseman, hit .386 this spring. He hit a three-run home run off Justin Verlander Wednesday to help solidify his spot on the Phillies' opening-day roster.

In order to clear a spot for Stassi on the 40-man roster, the Phillies designated OF Tyler Goeddel for assignment. Goeddel, a Rule 5 pick last season, was set to begin this season in the minor leagues but will now be exposed to waivers.
