SEATTLE -- The Seattle Mariners have hired Detroit Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon to be their next manager.

The Mariners announced their decision on Tuesday. McClendon becomes the third manager hired by general manager Jack Zduriencik. McClendon will be formally introduced by the team later this week.

McClendon replaces Eric Wedge who walked away at the end of the season, citing differences with the front office on how to move forward with the Mariners' rebuilding process. Wedge's contract expired after the season.

Seattle is the fourth club to fill its managerial vacancy. The Washington Nationals hired Matt Williams, the Cincinnati Reds chose Bryan Price and Detroit passed over McClendon for Brad Ausmus (see full story).

Windsor Police Sgt. Gerald Beers confirmed the DUI arrest but said he had no details.

A Rockies spokesman did not immediately respond to an email.

Monfort was released from the Weld County jail in Greeley on Tuesday on a personal recognizance bond.

Rangers: Soto re-signs with Texas
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Catcher Geovany Soto and the Texas Rangers have agreed to a $3.05 million, one-year contract, a raise of $300,000.

Texas acquired Soto in a trade from the Chicago Cubs in July 2012. He was the NL Rookie of the Year in 2008, when he hit .285 with 23 homers for the Cubs.

Soto hit .245 with nine home runs and 22 RBIs in 54 games this season, then became a free agent. While he was a backup to A.J. Pierzynski, Soto became the primary catcher for Rangers ace Yu Darvish the second half of the season.

He became the first of the 168 major league free agents to agree to a big league contract. Cleveland's Jason Giambi agreed to a minor league deal last week (see full story).
