The Phillies' 9-4 loss Wednesday night gave the Brewers their first 5-0 road start to a season in 27 years, but still, Ron Roenicke was ticked off upon returning to his office in the visiting clubhouse at Citizens Bank Park.
Milwaukee's manager was upset with the official scoring on Logan Schafer's game-winning RBI in the eighth inning.
Schafer's ground ball gave the Brewers a 5-4 lead after appearing to deflect off Ryan Howard's glove into right field. The play was ruled an error on Howard. Schafer got credit for the RBI but not the hit. That didn't sit well with Roenicke, who without being prompted voiced his displeasure with the ruling.
"I mean, this is ridiculous," Roenicke said before taking questions. "The Schafer ball, that's ridiculous. It was ridiculous last night on [Ben] Revere's ball in center field. Is this the way this [scorer] is or what? Something needs to be done about it."
Sorry skip, but even upon further review it still looks like an error. At least one out would have been recorded had Howard fielded the ball cleanly and either tagged first base or thrown directly home.
Even Schafer himself concurred.
"I thought it was [an error], too," Schafer said. "But who cares? We got the win. The only thing that changes is my numbers and [Antonio] Bastardo's."

The error was the Phillies' sixth in their last three games. The Phils have allowed more unearned runs in those three games (10) than any team in baseball has allowed all season.
So those numbers would have changed, too.
