Today's lineup: Howie Kendrick second, Michael Saunders fifth on opening day

Howie Kendrick bats second and Michael Saunders fifth for the Phillies on opening day.

The new additions should stick there if they hit. Kendrick is a traditional two-hole hitter who makes a lot of contact, and Saunders is capable of providing left-handed protection between the Phillies' powerful, right-handed corner infielders Maikel Franco and Tommy Joseph.

The Phillies face middling, 34-year-old Reds right-hander Scott Feldman. Perhaps against lefty starters, Saunders will move down a spot in the order.

Here's the full lineup:

1. Cesar Hernandez, 2B
2. Howie Kendrick, LF
3. Odubel Herrera, CF
4. Maikel Franco, 3B
5. Michael Saunders, RF
6. Tommy Joseph, 1B
7. Cameron Rupp, C
8. Freddy Galvis, SS
9. Jeremy Hellickson, P

Here’s the Reds’ lineup for Monday afternoon:
