Around the Atlantic: Did Garnett turn down Paul?

It wasn't for a lack of effort.

According to a report by Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald (via ProBasketballTalk), Chris Paul called Kevin Garnett and claimed that he could bring the Celtic forward to the Clippers if Garnett was open to a trade.

"According to a league source, Paul called Garnett and said that if he was open to joining the Clippers, then Paul would make it happen," Murphy writes. "Garnett, though, declined, expressing a desire to remain a Celtic."

Garnett stated All-Star weekend that he would not waive is no-trade clause and the 36-year-old veteran stayed true to his word.

Woodson frustrated with Knicks
Lately, life has not been pleasant for the Knicks. Mike Woodson's squad has gone 1-5 over its last six games, and in one of the most recent defeats -- a blowout loss to the Pacers on Wednesday -- J.R. Smith was ejected, Raymond Felton and Amare Stoudemire picked up technicals and the Knicks lost by 34 points.

"I’m not happy about how we played and how we carried ourselves professionally on the basketball court," Woodson said, according to the New York Post (via ProBasketballTalk). "We can’t do that. I’m not going to tolerate that. I’m just not."

The Knicks followed up the loss with a two-point defeat on Friday night to the Raptors.

Johnson sits with plantar fasciitis
NEW YORK -- Nets guard Joe Johnson sat out for the first time this season Friday against Houston because of plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

Interim coach P.J. Carlesimo says the pain was bothering Johnson after Wednesday's victory over Milwaukee, when he managed only eight points. The night before, Johnson had made the game-winning jumper to beat the Bucks.

C.J. Watson replaced Johnson, who plays a team-high 38 minutes per game and is second in scoring, averaging 17 points.

Houston was also short-handed, since newly acquired Thomas Robinson, Francisco Garcia and Tyler Honeycutt, acquired from Sacramento on Wednesday, weren't available yet because the players sent to the Kings hadn't completed their physicals in time.
