Should the Eagles Trade Vinny Curry?

There was a lot of surprise and disappointment when Vinny Curry’s name popped up on the inactive list for Week 1. The 2012 second-round pick was coming off a monster preseason where it appeared at times as if he was unstoppable, but on Monday he found himself caught up in the numbers game again.

Chip Kelly explained he wanted to have six defensive linemen active for the game. If we search for a deeper meaning, Curry’s absence probably had something to do with the fact that the Redskins utilize a heavy ground attack and his strength his rushing the passer.

Regardless, it was an all-too familiar situation for Curry, who was inactive for all but six games last season, and saw little playing time when he did dress. If he’s the odd man out again against the Chargers on Sunday, it’s really not looking good for the 25 year old in terms of carving out a role in Bill Davis’ 3-4 defense, which was the concern heading into this season. When the Eagles drafted Curry the defense was still using a 4-3.

It should be noted Curry said only the right things when asked about not playing, but behind the scenes might be a different story. Philly Mag’s Tim McManus got a hold of the defensive end’s representation this week, and according to Kevin Connor, Curry is ready to move on from the Eagles if need be.

“Vinny’s main objective is to play and play at a high level,” agent Kevin Connor told Birds 24/7. “The question becomes, can that happen in Philly or do we need to facilitate an opportunity outside of Philly if it makes sense for all parties.”

It’s also worth noting that Curry’s agent didn’t demand a trade or anything quite of that nature, but he did kind of state the obvious. If his client isn’t in the cards in Philadelphia, give him a chance to catch on somewhere else.

Of course, this could be an overreaction to what was a solid football decision, and Curry could be activated this week if the feeling is the defense wants to get after Philip Rivers. We should wait to see how this plays out before jumping to conclusions about what his role will be.

But if Curry isn’t part of the plan, they could conceivably try to get something for him while there would likely be some interest around the league. Curry was dominant at times this summer, and the feeling in the NFL is you can never have too many pass rushers. Unfortunately, the Eagles would get nowhere near their second-round investment in return if they dealt him today.

We’ll see what happens, but hopefully Curry is on the field come Sunday or at least by Week 3. If he isn’t, what options does the front office have?

Twitter roasts the heck out of Markelle Fultz's brutal free throws

Oh man, oh man, oh man. It's finally here. The 2017-18 Sixers season is underway with our squad locked in a pretty tightly contested game down in Washington after a quarter of play.

We've already seen Joel Embiid attempt to destroy the world -- and get fouled.

But the most buzzed about moment from the first frame of the Sixers' young season was clearly when Markelle Fultz went to the foul line and... well, tossed up some ugly bricks.

This isn't the first time we've seen this but it is the first time non-preseason Sixers fans are seeing it. We wondered aloud if the Sixers were doing the right thing with Fulz prior to tonight's game. The lack of information on his injuries is troubling. So what's the deal with that form?

Well, Twitter had a field day with it.

Although Fultz's shoulder looked perfectly fine on this delicious block! He also had a couple of early buckets.

It's a long season, rook. Just please work on that free throw motion.
