Adam Aron and the Sixers like mixing things up, that's for sure.
In addition to playing the Brooklyn Nets at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, the Sixers will also honor their roots by playing a preseason game against the New York Knicks at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York.
The Sixers will play their 50th season in Philadelphia this season so the preseason game on October 22nd in Syracuse will honor their roots, with the franchise originally being called the Nationals with their home in Syracuse.
You may recall when they rocked the Syracuse Nationals throwback uniforms a couple of years back as modeled by Allen Iverson above.
From the Sixers release:
"As we celebrate our 50th season in Philadelphia, it's important to remember our Syracuse roots while looking forward to the exciting season we have ahead of us," said Sixers CEO and co-Owner Adam Aron. "What fun to see the Sixers take on our division rivals in this historic hometown game."
Hall-of-famer Dolph Schayes, who played all 14 seasons for the Nationals and finished his career as a Sixer, will be in attendance. Schayes also coached the Sixers for three seasons, taking the team to the Eastern Division Finals twice. A 12-time All-Star, Schayes retired as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.
"I’m thrilled to see the franchise return to play a game in Syracuse,” said Schayes. “This will bring excitement to generations of fans in central New York who have heard of the great basketball tradition the Nationals started in the area back in the 50’s and early 60’s, which has been carried on by Syracuse University."
The game will also be a home-coming of sorts for former Syracuse Orangemen and current New York Knick Carmelo Anthony.

About NBC internships
As many citizens in Puerto Rico continue to struggle with the devastating impact of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria, Villanova basketball has decided to use its platform to raise money for relief.
The Villanova men’s and women’s teams will host an exhibition doubleheader Nov. 1 at the Jake Nevin Field House, with all ticket sales benefiting the organization “Unidos Por Puerto Rico.” Villanova is also encouraging fans to make additional donations at this website.
The Wildcats women's team will play East Stroudsburg (Division II) at 6 p.m. The men’s team will follow, with a contest against Drexel at 8:30 p.m.
“The impact of Hurricane Irma on our fellow citizens of Puerto Rico has been tragic,” Villanova athletic director Mark Jackson said. “We are grateful that the NCAA is permitting its members to participate in making donations in this unique way as we get ready for the college basketball season. I hope the Nova Nation will join us in supporting this relief effort.”
The men’s team, ranked No. 6 nationally in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll, was upset by Wisconsin in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season after a national championship campaign in 2015-16.
The Villanova women finished last season 20-15 overall, making a run to the semifinals of the WNIT before falling to Michigan, 65-11.
Both teams start the regular season Nov. 10, with the women visiting Hartford and the men taking on Columbia at the Wells Fargo Center.
