Sixers and Heat have same odds to win NBA title this season

It seems the Sixers can’t get away from Jimmy Butler and the Heat. Both the Sixers and Miami have the sixth-best odds to win the NBA Finals at +2000 ($10 bet to win $200), per NBC Sports betting partner PointsBet

Competition in the East is fierce as the Bucks (+500), Nets (+600), and Celtics (+1400) are all ahead of the Sixers and Heat. Meanwhile, it should be no surprise that the Lakers are the favorite to repeat at +250.

Because of COVID-19, teams are playing 72-game schedules in the 2020-21 season. The Sixers’ over/under on wins is listed at 44.5 for the season. That works out to a .618 win percentage. This past season the Sixers finished with a record of 43-30, which was good for a win percentage of .589.

The oddsmakers seem to view the Doc Rivers led-Sixers as pretty much a lock to make the postseason with odds of -607 ($10 bet to win $1.65). Crazier things have happened, but if they did not qualify, a wager on odds of +420 would earn $42 on a $10 bet.

With added perimeter help in Danny Green and Seth Curry, plus veteran big man Dwight Howard and rookie Tyrese Maxey in the fold, the Sixers certainly could make a run to the championship. PointsBet lists the odds on potential NBA Finals matchups for the Sixers. Here’s a look at the top six, with earnings based on $10 wagers:

  • Lakers: +2000 ($200)
  • Clippers: +3000 ($300)
  • Mavericks: +10000 ($1000)
  • Nuggets: +10000 ($1000)
  • Warriors: +15000 ($1500)
  • Jazz: +15000 ($1500)

The two teams favored to meet in the NBA Finals are the Lakers and Bucks at +600. The Sixers sure would like to spoil Milwaukee’s championships dreams as Butler and the Heat did this past summer.
